Merino Silk Finger Roving Hand dyed - BOHEMIA 246g

In stock

£13.65 (GBP)

This is hand dyed finger roving. It is designed for spinning; however it can be used
for 'big knitting'.

Finger roving is made usually in a yarn mill. It is a top, or roving that has been taken to the first spin machine. The machine pulls it and lightly twists it, giving this finger-width product. Usually in the mill this would then be taken to the final spinning machine, which will draft and spin as required. However, taken from the machine at this stage, the roving is a wonderful product for home crafters. Technically in most cases the finger roving will actually be a top, with perfectly aligned fibres… however, the term finger ‘roving’ has stuck.

If you are a spinner, I recommend wheel or spindle spinning, with slow and short draft
movements. This will help you handle the light spin that already exists.

If you are a knitter, then make sure you use this for light wear garments, not every
day use and wash very carefully by hand. You will need large needles, probably
upwards of 15mm.
