Teeswater is a rare breed fleece originally from northern England. They are known for their wonderful long wool curls, but were originally bred for their meat. Each hanging lock of wool has a wonderful lustre and creates the most beautiful yarn.

Do make a note of the beautiful curls when you use this wonderful fleece, as it will make the most amazing texture! Remember these curls will felt root to tip, so incorporate the roots in your work (onto a layer of Merino is best if you are Nuno felting) and let the tip curl hang free... this is also great for doll's hair.

Count: 48-54 Bradford (31-36 microns), Staple: 24-30cm (9-12 inches)

Colour: NATURAL with flecks of cream and gold shades.

This is a 'traditionally washed' Teeswater fleece. Traditionally washed means that the farmer has dipped the sheep before clipping to remove any large debris. Therefore this fleece still retains a large amount of natural 'grease' lanoline, which is particularly important for spinning this tight curl fibre. Removing the grease completely before selling would render the fibre unusable for hand spinners. This does leave a little extra remaining debris than fully washed fleeces, but I will sort it as I pack and remove the major debris where possible... remaining smaller debris, which is found in all washed fleeces can be carded out.

Felters may wish to wash the fleece before using or dyeing. Washing in small amounts like this, or finished yarns is very simple even for beginners. Please do ask me if you need any help.
